Organic Chemistry - Spectroscopy
Complete Structure Determination
This site has been developed to help you gain experience in using
spectroscopy to determine the
structure of an organic compound using a series of interactive
tutorial exercises.
We have made use of the
JME Molecular Editor. If you are not familiar with this software please
check this link for how to use the JME Editor.
If you are not familiar with our structure determination site, please
check this link on how the software and
interface works. This page includes one worked example.
Each question will provide you with a Mass spectrum
(MS), and Infrared spectrum
(IR), a
1H-NMR, and a
13C-NMR.
If you need a refresher on these, take the appropriate link.
There are a total of 27 different compounds in the data base at present.
You can use the following links to access questions directly, or use the
link at the bottom of each question. Please
note: these exercises make use of javascript to control the windows
associated with each question. For this feature to work properly, you should
initially access these questions from the links below. Once you are in
a "CSD" question, the previous and next question buttons will function
correctly as long as you do not close any windows on your own, let the
software handle them.
